So, I'm going on a little assignment. For the next year or so. To the desert.
No, not Palm Springs. The Anbar Province of Iraq.
And, unfortunately, our Girls Gone Tailgating adventures will be suspended for the 2008 season while I'm
in the Middle East.
Fight On Bob has already warned me -- the time difference will mean listening to SC football games on a
radio broadcast at 4:30am. And, as it turns out, Sample's shutdown of the beer facilities at the Coliseum
was merely a training exercise. Only, no need for a magic purse in Iraq -- turns out only non-alcoholic
beer is on the menu.
Yes, living in Iraq will be a challenge. But, I cannot think of any job more rewarding than trying to help
people who have been oppressed for decades build a democracy in the Middle East. I will be
headquartered with the Marines so, please, don't worry about me. ;-)
Never fear -- I still will be chronicling my (sober) adventures online. Maybe it's just me but it seemed a
little inappropriate to post from the war zone on GGT so, for more info and more stories and more photos,

In a nutshell, this is an awesome opportunity. Sure, I'll be living a little outside of my comfort zone but it is
just time to do something more.
