We are...Girls Gone Tailgating!

Trojans Defeat Boise State:  Oops, I mean Idaho
So, I made the requisite trip to the salon, the mall and the manicurist on
Friday.  Stayed up late making jello shots.  Then flew out of bed in time to
sing along with Big & Rich to ESPN’s College Gameday theme song.
Picture it now:  Still in my pj’s rockin’ out:

“Well, we flew through Oklahoma, Alabama, and through Georgia trying to
get on down to Florida for the game.  And then we loaded up our tailgate,
joined a convoy on the freeway headed north to see them Buckeyes and
Notre Dame.  VICTORY FOR USC, Bulldogs barking at the Wolverines.
Hook 'em, 'Horns, and gimme that Rocky Top Tennessee.”  Woo hoo!
Meet the GGT Crew
We made it down to the Marshall tailgate and
think we found our new home for the ‘007
season.  Easy, no reservations required, and a
rockin’ deejay.  What more can you ask for?

It didn’t take long before our crowd started to
get out of control.  Just before they were OTL
(over the line), Serena and I left to make our
rounds.  Turns out we left just in time:
Of course, we eventually made it into
the Coliseum.  But, those longer lines
because of the new ticket scanners
kept us from making it in time for the
tribute to late kicker Mario Danelo.  It’s the first of many moments I am thankful Payson has the DVR
working at home.  The second comes after the team scores their first touchdown:  they lined up for the
PAT without a kicker, in honor of Danelo.  An intentional delay of game penalty was but a small price to
memorialize our big loss.

After four quarters of football that we watched from no less than four different sections, Booty had thrown
three touchdown passes, new headliner Stafon Johnson scored two TD’s and we cruised to a 38-10
victory against the Vandals in front of 90,913 Trojan fans and 4 people from Idaho.  The win marked our
34th straight victory at home dating back to 2001 -- the longest such active streak in the country.

All and all, maybe we hoped to win by more than 28 points (some of us hoped to win by at least 46).  But,
not as much as we hoped they left the 9-0 alone – the only bar in the world that, we discovered, can be
ruined with a wall of plasma screens.  But, we’ll take the victory and complain quietly about the
destruction of the best college bar ever.  Because, at the end of the day, we didn’t lose to a 2-A team like
Michigan or struggle against Arkansas State like Texas.  And, the limo arrived home in one piece (which
we all know isn’t a given with us too).  Up next:  Nebraska!!!  Fight on!
At commercial break, I put up our shrine to Trojan football
over the TV and slipped the cinnamon rolls in the oven.  By
noon the champagne was open, by 1 we inaugurated the
jello shots and by 2 the limo had arrived and we were
headed back home – to campus and the Coliseum.

First buzzkill of the season:  The driver wasn’t too happy
that we were passing out our jello shots to other fans
waiting at red lights along the way.  Oh well.  Best to get that
first one out of the way early, right?  Nothing a little Young
MC’s Bust a Move can’t fix.
First stop:  find FightOnBob and give him a hug before he
ships out for Iraq in a few days.  And the second:  a swing by
the milk truck to see more of our girls.  It’s so good to be back!
