We are...Girls Gone Tailgating!

Fresh off of  “Summer Sizzle 06” at the Wynn Las Vegas where
we kicked off the college football season with our boys from
ND, Girls Gone Tailgating is headed for…ARKANSAS!

At least that *was* the plan.  Until Serena caught a summer
cold.  Now, it is just
Girl Gone Tailgating for the season
opener.  And now my fate is left to Fight On Bob.  Pray for me.  :-)
So, remember the last time we kicked off the season against
an SEC team?  Remember that woman with her snide,
“Welcome to SEC Football!!!?”  Remember the 23-0 blanking
Auburn suffered?  Remember my “Welcome to Pac-10
football!” retort as the final seconds counted down?  Who could
forget that moment…or any that followed during the next three
years that represented the most winningest period of Trojan
football?

Well, we are running that baby back again.  Starting off against
an SEC team…with a new quarterback…and Coach Carroll at
the helm.  Déjà vu.  Yes, we will miss Matt and Reggie and
LenDale.  But this time we have the nation’s top recruiting
class for the past four years in uniform and the sting of the
most devastating loss to motivate us.  We're ready.
And so, this weekend the number THREE ranked Trojans (and me) are making our first trip ever to
Fayetteville.  USC is riding a school-record 15-game road winning streak and has captured its last 8
season openers, not to mention we have a history of dominating the SEC.

This is not new territory for Coach Carroll, though the playbook has probably changed since 1977
when he was a graduate assistant coach for Arkansas under Lou Holtz.  Even USC QB John David
Booty has a connection to the warthogs – his father played QB at Arkansas back in the day.

Last year the pigs finished with a 4-7 record, including a 70-17 loss to USC at the Coliseum (no, that is
not a typo.)  And, I’m sure they haven’t forgotten the game – it made the record books for Arkansas.  As
in, the 70 points were the most allowed by Arkansas since 1918, and the 736 yards of total offense
were the most allowed by Arkansas EVER.

Now they get a rematch against the program that boasts 11 National Championships and 7 Heisman
Trophy winners, in front of a sold out crowd at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.  Kick-off is
Saturday, September 2 at 5:45pm PDT.  If you aren’t planning on battling the heat and humidity, the
game will be broadcast on ESPN.

But, heat and humidity don't scare me.  And, neither does a bad travel itinerary -- I will depart LAX at
8am on Friday, fly through Atlanta (don’t ask), then arrive in Kansas City to meet up with the KC Alumni
crew for the drive to Fayetteville to find Fight On Bob and his boys.  Fayetteville, consider yourself
warned.

And, Serena -- I will let you know on Monday if I forgive you for this.
The Wait is Over...
