USC and UCLA lost key players over the last two days...but for two very different reasons. The day after UCLA senior quarterbacks Patrick Cowan and Ben Olson were injured in back-to-back plays at the end of Spring practice, USC waved goodbye as seven, count 'em SEVEN players, were drafted in the first two rounds of the NFL draft.
Sedrick Ellis was the first to go. As the 7th pick overall, he will join Reggie in New Orleans. Then Keith Rivers was seen celebrating at his family home in Florida just two picks later when the Bengals picked him 9th. Trojan Heisman winner Carson Palmer will hopefully show him around the city.
Then the Atlanta Falcons jumped on the Trojan train to draft Sam Baker as the 21st pick. Then, at #28 for the day, the Seattle Seahawks picked up Lawrence Jackson. Aloha, Lofa!
Three Trojans went in the second round, including Chilo Rachal to the 49ers, Fred Davis to the Redskins and Terrell Thomas to the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
