Eye Of The Tiger Less Miles Gives New Meaning to Looking Past Opponent(s)

money that would have been far better spent on, well, pretty much anything else in their state at the time. In
case anyone needs a reminder: click here. You can also find it under “myopic” in the dictionary. Right,
Serena? If Less Miles tries any harder, he might find himself there too.
Which is why we enjoyed rubbing the salt in that wound when SC claimed his state's top recruit, Joe
McKnight. Considered the best player in Louisiana and the second best recruit in the nation, picking up
McKnight was like running the ball in on a fourth down when you are already ahead by, well, a lot. [hee hee

But, enough about Miles. The bitterness is merely a contagion. That’s the only explanation for his comments
over the summer (see referenced Sports Illustrated article). After all, he wasn't even at the game – he was too
busy coaching his Oklahoma State team to defeat at the Cotton Bowl that year. Besides, it’s not like Coach
Carroll isn’t undefeated against SEC opponents. We were at Auburn. We were at Arkansas. We have yet to
see what the big deal is about their little conference.
But, there is one glaring problem for Less, and it isn’t that LSU is ranked behind USC. The first rule in college
football (and one we have all learned the hard way): Never overlook an opponent. But, for some reason,
Less is overlooking all 12 of his regular season games. Middle Tennessee State, Tulane, and Louisiana
Tech are just three of the offended programs. Gotta love the coach who is already salivating over a post-
season match-up before the season has even begun. Looks like Less takes after Nick in more ways than
one!
Thirty days and counting...
So, Less Miles is picking up where Nick Saban left off. In a
recent interview, he showed as much class as his
predecessor. His paltry 50-25 coaching record and lack of
a crystal football didn’t tame his remarks either. Seems he
is just as bitter as the rest of the cats in Louisiana that USC
stole their thunder in 2003 when our crushing o’ the
Wolverine led to a shared National Championship title.
Who can blame them, really? They haven’t had anything
else to focus on since then. Well, wait, there was Hurricane
Katrina. But even that wouldn’t stop them from raising
money to flaunt their bitterness in the form of a billboard –
